Notes from the Midnight Driver, by Jordan Sonnenblick

Notes from the Midnight Driver, by Jordan Sonnenblick, was an awesome book that my students read for literature circles.  I read this book a few years back, but it was great reliving the story with new readers once again.  With Jordan Sonnenblick coming to our school next year, this is definitely one to consider reading beforehand.

The book that I read was Notes From The Midnight Driver by: Jordan Sonneblick. This amazing story was filled with excitement, love, and inspiration. I thoroughly enjoyed practicing my reading strategies with this great read. I really do hope that everyone will have the chance to not only read this book, but be able to meet the many characters who all have awesome personalities. This story also contains a way of faith and friendship that I think everyone should be exposed to. Notes From The Midnight Driver made me love reading even more!
This wonderful read was about a teenage boy named Alex, dealing with the sorrow of his mom’s and dad’s divorce. Unfortunately, because of this sadness, Alex drunk-drives while attempting to travel to his dad’s house (Dad is dating Alex’s “hot” third grade teacher) so he can express his anger. Alex must now do community service at an elderly home because of his incident. During his community hours Alex must help out an interesting old man named Sol. Let’s just say Sol doesn’t mind messing around. Alex must also deal with the challenges of romance and his love interest (a.k.a BFF), Laurie. Will Alex become a stronger individual? Will he change?
The genre of this story was, in my opinion a mix of drama and comedy. I absolutely loved the book because there were so many rich details. The jokes that were put into Notes From The Midnight Driver were hysterical! I also adored this read because it helped me to remember some of the most valuable morals such as to see life in all perspectives, to be a good friend and to have FUN!!! This story was easy to comprehend and fun connect to. It brought a huge sense of being a responsible person and enjoying what you have, even the small things. This book was INCREDIBLE!! I would recommend Notes From The Midnight Driver to everyone, especially pre-teens and teens. This book covers the life and the problems of a young adult and stretches the lesson of making the right decisions. I would rate this read 5 out of 5 stars. Read Notes From The Midnight Driver!

  2. Notes From The Midnight Driver by Jordan Sonnenblick is a phenomenal book. It is about a sixteen year-old boy named Alex. Alex’s parents are divorced. This gives Alex some ideas that maybe aren’t the smartest. He decides to get drunk, and he attempts to drive without a licence to his father’s house, planning on telling him off for leaving him and his mother. However, Alex does not get very far, and ends up crashing into his neighbor’s lawn, decapitating her French lawn gnome. He ends up getting arrested, and then sentenced to visit a grumpy old man named Solomon Lewis. Alex finds it hard to get along with him at first. Will he figure it out? Read the book to find out!

I really liked this book. Not only does it send out the message not to drink and drive, it also is a book you can read and just enjoy. My favorite character has to be Solomon. He had such a strong personality, he was funny, and he had an interesting background. Every one of the characters in this book were so different; if the author didn’t tell you who was talking, you could figure it out anyway!

The genre of this book is realistic fiction. Unfortunately, there are lots of situations like this today. This book could be viewed as an example of the consequences that could be given if the situation was ever to arise. On a different note, it is a great read, and I would definitely rate it five stars. I would recommend this book to anybody who likes books about real-life situations, or someone who likes books with strong character personalities.

  3. The book I read is called Notes From the Midnight Driver by: Jordan Sonnenblick. The book is about a sixteen year old boy named Alex. Alex has been going through a rough time. His dad left his mom and him for his third grade teacher and Alex is not happy about it at all. In fact he is so angry that we went and stole his fathers liquor that was left at his house after his father moved out, while his Mother is on at date with her boyfriend. After drinking he attempts to drive to his father's house to basically yell in his face. However, he only gets halfway up the street because he crashes into an old lady's french garden gnome. He gets himself in quite a lot of trouble and has to go to court for a trial. His sentence is to take care of Solomon Lewis, an old grumpy at a old folks home. At first Alex hates what he has to do. However, he realizes that Mr. Lewis isn't that bad after all. With all that is going on in Alex's life he has to deal with Laurie, best friend , who might be going through a harder time then he is himself.

The genre of this book is realistic fiction. It deals with real life situations, even if they aren't so good. The book deals with drunk driving and divorced parents, two really serious problems that occur today. The book also has a great deal of friendship between Alex and Laurie, but also Alex and Mr.Lewis.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked all of the musical aspects of it; with the whole Jazz Band and how he was struggling with his music,( I can totally relate) but he worked hard and practiced and in the long run, it was all worth it. I also liked the book because of the humor in it. The character Solomon Lewis would always have something funny to say. Over all, this book written by Jordan Sonnenblick was fantastic! It had all of the things a great book should have. So in conclusion, I would rate this book a five out of five!

  4. The book I read was Notes From The Midnight Driver, by Jordan Sonnenblick. This book was very good I hope you will read it after how I tell you how good this book was.

The book is mainly about three people Alex, Laurie, and Solomon Lewis. It starts out with Alex a 16 year old. He was home alone one day and his mother wasn't home and his mom and dad are divorced. So Alex's dad is dating Alexs third grade teacher and Alex wants to stand up to his dad. So he drinks a lot from his mother's liquor cabinet and starts to drive. And he doesn't even make it down the street and he goes to the hospital. And then the judge sentences Alex to 100 hours in a memorial home. At the memorial home he is assigned to a guy named Solomon Lewis. At first he doesn't get along with Sol but if you read this you will have to see how Sol and Alex get along with each other.

The genre of this book is a romantic, comedy. I would give this book a four out of five star rating. This book was very good and touching I hope you will rerad it.

I read “notes from a midnight driver”, it’s by Jordan Sonneblick. It’s a realistic fiction about a 16 year old boy named Alex whose parents got divorced and his mom has a boyfriend and his dad is dating his 3rd grade teacher. Alex was at his mom’s house and he was drinking alcohol but then he decided to drive to his dad’s house down the street. He ended up killing his….. Neighbor’s lawn gnome. He went to court and Judge Judy sentenced him for community service by going to a nursing home to take care of Solomon Lewis.

Sol and Alex became closer together but it kind of was hard because Mr. Lewis always jokes around with Alex and everyone else, so you don’t know when he is being serious or not. Sol and Alex’s best friend Laurie are a lot alike, they both like messing with Alex. Sol’s wife died because of a drunk driver so when he figured it out that was the reason why Alex was going there he got really mad at Alex.

Laurie and Alex almost kissed in an elevator, but the elevator stopped and Laurie and Alex bumped heads, I think they will date if they made a second book. Alex’s parent’s got back together in the end. Mr. Lewis and his daughter met each other again after so many years.

I liked this book because it was emotional, funny at parts, I laughed out loud in the middle of class and everyone was looking at me. I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars rating. It is one of my 10 ten favorite books.

The title of the book I read is Notes from the Midnight Driver by Jordan Sonnenblick. It is a realistic fiction book about a 16 year old boy named Alex. It is a really good book and I suggest you pick it up at your local library.

This book is a page turner; you don't know what is going to happen next. Alex's parents are divorced and he is very angry at his dad. Alex makes a poor decision by drinking alcohol that his dad left at the house. He decides to drive to this dad's house to yell at him for breaking up with his mom but he crashes the car. He crashes into his neighbor's yard and cracks the lawn gnome. Later, he goes to court and his punishment is to take care of a grouchy old man named Sol at a local nursing home. Alex has a best friend named Laurie who meets Sol and they all end up being friends. The remainder of the book is about Sol and Alex's relationship. There is a big emotional twist at the end.

I liked this book because it had funny parts. For example, Sol pulled little pranks on Alex every once and a while. Another reason for liking this book is because it is a real life situation. It teaches young kids a lesson. I give this book a five star rating.

The book I read was Notes from the Midnight Driver by Jordan Sonnerblick.

The book was about a boy called Alex whose parents are divorced because his dad was cheating on his mom with his teacher and his mom kicked him out. Alex was not okay with that. He had a brilliant idea to get drunk and drive to his dad’s house. Unfortunately, he crashed the car into a lawn gnome and got arrested by the police.

Once his mom bailed him out of jail and they went to court, the judge said he needed to do one hundred days of community service at a nursing home. He was assigned to an old man named Solomon Lewis, a grumpy Jewish man who always called Alex names in Yiddish. Solomon had a tough life. His wife was killed by a drunk driver and his daughter doesn’t visit him since she grew up and became a lawyer. He is a very skilled jazz guitar player and ironically Alex plays the guitar as well.

Alex has a friend named Laurie who he’d like to be closer with than just friends. She is also having trouble with her parents so Alex decides to give her advice and try to use the same advice to help his own parent problems. In the end, Alex learned valuable life lessons and became a better person.

The genre of the book is realistic fiction. I liked this book because it was many different stories that made up one. All the stories and character related in some way and impacted each other lives. I also liked that there were many funny parts of the book.

I give the book a five star rating because I really liked the way it kept me interested from the beginning to end.
