Maximum Ride (series), by James Patterson

The Maximum Ride series, by James Patterson, is high-action and exciting.  There are quite a few reasons why this series so enticing and why I recommend it with two enthusiastic thumbs up.

First of all, the books themselves are relatively easy to read.  Sure the number of pages are high (up and around 400 pages per book), but don't let the size of the book scare you away.  Chapters are quick hitting, shortened down to about 3-5 pages each, and they all seem to end with a bit of a cliffhanger that makes you want to continue reading onto the next chapter (which again is really easy because the chapters are so short themselves!).

Another reason to get into this series of books is because James Patterson is a well-established author of mystery and suspense novels for adults, and his writing translates really well for a younger audience.  Obviously his writing here is toned down for younger readers, but he still does an awesome job at keeping readers hooked and on edge while delivering suspenseful and dangerous thrills.  Nail biters beware; these books are intense!

So, if action, adventure, and the whole idea of "Can Max and her crew save the world from flying mutants with super strengths?" gets you.  If you're looking for a potential new series and a great new author to read, then this could definitely be what you're looking for!
