The following are books that I have read and recommend for middle school students. A growing list of books is on the right, titled "Book List," and each new post will feature a specific book or series of books that I will elaborate on. Visitors can post their thoughts on books I recommend as well, and they can also contribute to the recommended book list page. Enjoy!

Wonder by R.J. Palacio. I think this book is awesome and understandable. This book teaches kids to be kind to someone even if they look or act different. The main character Auggie enters a new school and people look at him differently because of his facial deformity.
ReplyDeleteThe genre of this book is realistic fiction because it could happen in real life, but also has made up characters. I liked the book because it shows respect to other people.
I would give this book 5 stars because of the respect that readers learn from this book. It also teaches people to make new friends by being kind and by showing care for people. If they have had their feelings hurt, cheer them up!

I read Wonder by R.J. Palacio. Wonder is realistic-fiction. The book is about a kid named August. He has a deformed face and his family wants him to go to regular school. His mother is home schooling him but says that she can’t teach him everything. He thinks it’s going to be horrible, but he takes a tour and says he’ll try it. August meets Jack, Charlotte and Julian during the tour of the school. August survives school and has fun.
ReplyDeleteThe book sends a good message about fitting in and that it doesn’t matter what someone looks like. I liked the message of the book but the story itself was very long and repetitive. If the author changed it up a bit it would be a much better read.
For example the author gives overlapping views from the characters. Like when August describes going to the school to be shown around, then Jack gives his view of the same event there isn’t much additional information. I would give this book 2 stars.
